2024: a record year for Mitsubishi in Canada
The story of Mitsubishi's Canadian division is an incredible one. Established in the early 2000s, it has gone through difficult times, but has always bounced back stronger than ever. Today, it is a...
Action Mitsubishi
Since its renewal, the Chevrolet Trax has earned a number of industry accolades. And it's fully deserved; General Motors has done a good job here. But is this new, more modern model a better buy than an industry veteran like the Mitsubishi RVR?
We're not sure. In fact, as you'll see, the comparison between the two always gives an edge to the Mitsubishi product.
Mechanical features (s)
With the Chevrolet Trax, you get just one engine, a 1.2-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder offering 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. Fair enough, but nothing more. With the RVR, you have two engines on the menu. The base version benefits from a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, which offers 148 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. It's decent, too, but better suited to the task, while the extra displacement makes all the difference in terms of ruggedness.
Then, most RVRs benefit from a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder, an engine capable of delivering 168 horsepower and 167 lb-ft of torque, which is far superior and helps boost performance.
Above all, Mitsubishi's powertrains are reliable, durable and robust. Chevrolet's is frail, and when it comes to durability and reliability, one doubt remains.
All-wheel drive
When it comes to all-wheel drive, it's simple: it's not offered with the Chevrolet Trax, whereas the Mitsubishi RVR is mostly offered with four-wheel drive. And not just any four-wheel drive system; S-AWC (Super-All Wheel Control), one of the best in the industry.
And you don't have to pay extra for it, even though the bills between the two models are very similar.
The warranty
Finally, with any vehicle, what you want as a buyer is peace of mind. Mitsubishi offers this, while Chevrolet has its fingers crossed. The RVR's 10-year or 160,000 km powertrain protection is undoubtedly a strong argument for those who want peace of mind over a long period. With the Chevrolet Trax, you're swimming in the unknown.
And although this model is more technologically up to date due to its birth design, this is often accompanied by glitches. With the Mitsubishi RVR, you don't have to worry about this imponderable element.
In short, if you're looking for the best value for your dollar, the choice is simple: the Mitsubishi RVR represents the best value in its segment.
