2024: a record year for Mitsubishi in Canada
The story of Mitsubishi's Canadian division is an incredible one. Established in the early 2000s, it has gone through difficult times, but has always bounced back stronger than ever. Today, it is a...
Action Mitsubishi
There is a special relationship between Canadian consumers and Mitsubishi vehicles. This is due to a host of things, including the reliability of the models and the fact that they offer above-average all-wheel drive.
And in the case of some vehicles, we have to talk about a love affair. This is the case with the Outlander PHEV, the plug-in hybrid version of the model that bears the same name.
And what allows us to say such a thing? A simple look at the sales figures on the Canadian side compared to the American side.
Rule of 10
The American population is roughly 10 times larger than that of Canada. Consequently, we often see a model sell 10 times more in the United States than in Canada. It makes sense.
Sometimes, if it is more popular there, the ratio will be stronger on the American side. Conversely, we will observe a larger percentage of sales, proportionally, on the Canadian side.
This is also normal, since tastes can be different on one side of the border or the other. However, in the case of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, the figures are simply staggering.
Canadian popularity
First, if we analyze the brand's overall sales figures, we realize that more Mitsubishi vehicles are sold in Canada than in the United States, always taking into account the proportions.
For example, during the first six months of the year, 51,130 vehicles were sold on the American side. In Canada, this should translate into some 5,100 sales, taking into account the 10 to 1 rule. However, after only three months, 8,921 models had been sold on this side of the border.
With about 17,000 sales in six months (we're still waiting for the numbers), we're in the ratio of 3 to 1 rather than 10 to 1.
And in the case of the Outlander PHEV, it's simply astounding.
In three months in Canada, 2,690 variants of the model were sold, while in six months in the United States, we were at only 2,896 units. This means that approximately twice as many Outlander PHEVs are sold in Canada than in the United States, despite a population 10 times smaller.
These numbers are simply astounding, practically unheard of in the history of automotive statistics regarding model sales on both sides of the 49th parallel.
All of this testifies to one thing; of the recognition of Canadian consumers towards the value of the product, but also the recognition of the fact that the Outlander PHEV is a vehicle that meets the aspirations and needs of consumers here.
All this is more than interesting for the future.
